Blog Post #6

So far, my experience with Omeka and creating an exhibit has been so-so. I’ve had a lot of trouble trying to get things to work, and despite following the instructions exactly I still haven’t been able to find success with many facets of the software. I’m not very skilled at web design or coding to begin with, so I expected to encounter many challenges. Some of the hurdles I’ve encountered I’ve been able to solve by looking through the resources tab, but other issues still remain unresolved. It’s a bit frustrating. I’ve spent a lot of time on the history stuff- compiling sources, establishing a narrative, condensing down information into an easily digestible exhibit. All of that has been fairly time consuming, and it’s annoying when a technical issue prevents me from putting the finishing touches on my work. The most frustrating issue so far has been trying to get Omeka to display things correctly. I have a particular vision for my site derived from my outline, and I can’t quite achieve it as of yet. I’m going to keep at it of course, but it’s been difficult considering how scare Omeka troubleshooting guides are. In any case, I’m hoping my finished project will look how I want it to, and I’m hoping that can be done without too much difficulty.
